Our fee structure is designed to be transparent, fair, and rewarding for active community members. All fees are paid in USDC and are automatically calculated during checkout.

How Fees Work
For Buyers
As a buyer, you pay the listed item price plus the applicable Playhold fee. The fee is calculated based on the seller's badge status:
- Standard sellers: 8% fee on top of the item price
- Verified Booster sellers: 5% fee (you save 3%!)
- During Early Bird: 0% fee (completely free)
You may also optionally add insurance (+1%) for additional buyer protection on your purchase. Insurance provides extra coverage in case of disputes.
For Sellers
As a seller, you receive the full listed price of your item. The Playhold fee is paid by the buyer, not deducted from your earnings. This means:
- If you list an item for 100 USDC, you receive 100 USDC when sold
- The buyer pays 100 USDC + the applicable fee
- Your earnings are not affected by fee rates
Reduce Your Fees with Badges
Our badge system rewards active and trusted community members with reduced fees. Here's how you can benefit:
Verified Booster Badge
The Verified Booster badge reduces the Playhold fee from 8% to 5% on all purchases from your listings.
- Makes your listings more attractive to buyers
- Shows you're a trusted member of the community
- Available through the badge purchase system
Escrow Protection
All transactions on our Playhold are protected by our blockchain-based escrow system on the Base network. This means:
- Secure payments: Funds are held in escrow until the transaction is complete
- Buyer protection: If you don't receive your item, you can dispute the transaction
- Seller protection: Once delivery is confirmed, payment is released automatically
- Transparent: All escrow transactions are verifiable on-chain
Payment Method
All transactions on our Playhold are conducted in USDC (USD Coin) on the Base network. USDC is a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar, providing:
- Price stability (1 USDC ≈ $1 USD)
- Fast transaction times
- Low gas fees on Base
- Full transparency on the blockchain
